Site update

You may (or may not) have noticed that a lot of the ROMs on my Downloads page have been mysteriously disappearing.  Fear not, as they have been making the slow transfer to their new home at BaronGaming.weebly.com.  To keep track, as I move a ROM, I remove it from this page.

College Slam 2017

For those that are not familiar with the original College Slam, it’s a hybrid of NBA Jam meets NCAA Basketball.  There are 44 teams in total (53 if you include the hidden ones), but not a single player to be found.  Instead, we get PT GUARD, PWR FWD, CENTER, etc.

Well, I changed that.  In this 2017 update, I have changed the names to include the actual player names found on each team’s 2016-2017 rosters.  So, it’s PWR FWD out, LYDON in.

To go along with the player names, I’ve also updated the player ratings to match the respective players, as well as their appearances.

Not only did I change the original 44 teams, I also updated the nine hidden teams.  These teams have been replaced with BaronROMs University, the East Side Crew (my “crew” from high school), and the 2010 thru 2016 All-American Teams.  To unlock these teams, on the title screen press UP-DOWN-LEFT-RIGHT-UP-DOWN-LEFT-RIGHT.

Tecmo Super Bowl 2017 Update

I made a small change to the way the Pro Bowls are handled by Tecmo Super Bowl 2017.  I’ve reverted back to the traditional format of AFC vs. NFC, doing away with the previous Team Rice vs. Team Irvin.  This includes the team logos (Rice/Irvin faces are out, AFC and NFC logos have returned), rosters (the best players at each position are back), and short-name callouts (RIC/IRV out, AFC/NFC in).

The reason for this change is because at the end of a season, during a simulation, the Pittsburgh Steelers were crowned “RIC CHAMPIONS.”  It turns out the “RIC” label was used in more locations than just the Pro-Bowl.

When you download the update, you might have to (a) delete your previous ROM save file, or (b) do a “RESET ROSTERS” for each Pro Bowl team on their respective TEAM DATA screen.  If you don’t, the old rosters might still be active.

The new version can be found HERE or in the Downloads section on the right side of the page.

Continuing to milk the 2014 FIFA World Cup

This is the 4th release in my series of World Cup 2014 collection, this time, for the under-represented Sega Genesis.  Past updates have included Nintendo’s Super J.League, Nintendo World Cup, and the Super Nintendo’s International Superstar Soccer.

I’ve updated FIFA International Soccer to reflect the squads of those teams that participated in the World Cup, and those that just missed it.

In total, there are 48 actual teams, and one Adidas All-Star Team.  I will be using this ROM release as the groundwork for a future release, featuring the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA World Cup 2014 can be found in the Downloads section on this site, or right HERE.

Tecmo Super Bowl 2017

One thing this site has been missing over the years has been an annual Tecmo Super Bowl release, similar to the gems found on TecmoBowl.org.  I’ve got the college and original Tecmo Bowl covered, but I’ve left Tecmo Super Bowl to those that already do it.  Because of this, there is a gaping hole in my collection that can only be filled by this update.

Fast forward to today.

Maybe this is cheap.  Maybe this is just efficient.  The annual Tecmo Super Bowl release on TecmoBowl.org is released by a guy named Knobbe.  His release is a highly modified version of the original with all sorts of bells and whistles.  I’ve taken his player data and ported it over the bare-bones version (vanilla) of Tecmo Super Bowl, made a few adjustments (Pro Bowl out, Rice/Irvin in), put a bow on it, and am now re-releasing it as a BaronROMs exclusive.

The download can be found HERE or in the Downloads section on the side of the page.

Super Mario Bros. 2016

Just because I can.

Flirting with blasphemy, I feel that the original Super Mario Bros. has a “dated” feel to it. I’ve taken it upon myself to freshen things up a bit. Using Super Mario Bros. 2 and 3 as models, I’ve applied a fresh new coat of paint over the NES classic which is now available for download.

Super Mario Bro. Remake

Although on hiatus from the typical Tecmo Bowl/RBI Baseball modification, I am not going completely cold-turkey.  In the time leading up to my annual RBI Baseball release, I’m taking the time to “remake” the original Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo.  I am replacing approximately 90% of the sprites with those found in in Super Mario Bros. 3, while enhancing the appearance and color palettes of those that I am keeping.  Although still early in development, the project is coming along nicely.
